September 23, 2010 - OVO by Cirque du Soleil

OVO by Cirque du Soleil is hitting Washington, DC this fall, and friends of GAYLAW can receive 15% off the September 23 performance!

Cirque du Soleil is pleased to announce that it will return to DC with its big top touring production, OVO, starting Thursday, September 9th, 2010. OVO will perform for a limited engagement under the trademark blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) at The Plateau at National Harbor.

OVO is a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement. The insects' home is a world of biodiversity and beauty filled with noisy action and moments of quiet emotion.

VOLUNTEER FOR WHITMAN-WALKER CLINIC'S ESTATE PLANNING CLINIC

On the second Tuesday evening of every month, GAYLAW volunteers meet with people living with HIV/AIDS at Whitman-Walker Clinic to prepare simple planning documents (typically a Will, Advance Medical Directive and/or a Power of Attorney). GAYLAW also recruits teams of lawyers, legal assistants and law students to visit and prepare documents for clients who are home or hospital-bound due to their medical conditions, and helps the WWC Legal Services Program recruit GAYLAW volunteers to prepare documents for clients who visit its Northern Virginia campus. These documents give WWC clients a real sense of control over their future and satisfaction at having put their affairs in order. No experience is required in estate planning or related areas. The documents you will prepare are uncomplicated and are designed for people with little, if any, property or income. A comprehensive AIDS Advocacy Training Manual, E-form documents and close mentoring by WWC staff will give you the necessary support. The time investment is very manageable - typically under 5 hours per client - but the impact you will make on the lives of those in need is tremendous.

Please complete the Volunteer Registration Form GAYLAW Volunteer Coordinator, J. Max Barger, Esq. Please indicate which month(s) you prefer to volunteer. If you have any questions, please call Max at 301-951-9343 or Caroline Ciuni Pro Bono Coordinator, at the WWC at 202-939-7627.
